Public Service Announcement: Drought Warning and Water Conservation

Lincoln Pipestone Rural Water is asking customers to take steps to conserve water as prolonged dry weather has placed the Missouri-Big Sioux Watershed into the Drought Warning Response Phase, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

During a drought warning, public water suppliers are directed to implement water use reduction measures and communicate the importance of conservation to their communities. Reducing non-essential water use now helps protect available water supplies for drinking water, sanitation, livestock,  and other critical needs.

How Customers Can Help

Customers are encouraged to reduce water use wherever possible, especially during peak demand times. Small daily changes can make a meaningful difference across the entire water system.

• Limit non-essential outdoor water use, including lawn watering, power washing, car washing, and filling swimming pools.
• Water lawns and gardens only when necessary and avoid watering during the hottest part of the day.
• Check faucets, toilets, hoses, livestock waterers, and sprinkler systems for leaks and repair them promptly.
• Take shorter showers and turn off the tap while brushing teeth, shaving, shampooing, or lathering.
• Run dishwashers and washing machines only with full loads.
• Install water-saving devices such as faucet aerators, low-flow showerheads, and efficient appliances when possible.
• Reuse water when safe and practical, such as using leftover water for plants or gardens.
